personal – the perfect image – happy new year
Composition, lighting, command of the environment are all elements that go into the perfect image. Yet for me, absolute perfection means the image becomes invisible and the moments and memories surrounding the event come into sharp focus for the observer’s mind. Whereas I strive to make great images for everyone to enjoy, I seek to truly capture those moments for my client that are sometimes personal to one or two people. Sherri and her sister (Post) sharing a private moment right before the ceremony starts is one example I like to recall. What was said I don’t know. What was felt, I can only imagine. Was the lighting perfect: no. Still this image takes both ladies back to that one perfect moment in time.
This past weekend I had to opportunity to do that for myself. Photography (and Physics) were the least of my concerns as Kenya and I headed to the very cold beach to enjoy a few days alone before a new year of work started. I took my point and shoot digital just in case. While walking along the beach, the light was ok so I snapped a few images to play around. Some women feel the pictures of them are NEVER good enough. But these were not for her or a competition or a client; these images were simply for me. I can choose to see her great beauty or I can choose to go back to that moment when the image was captured in my mind. Either way I have a set of perfect images.
As we start the new year I encourage everyone that reads this post to take some “perfect Images” of those special to them. Capture those images that unlock those happy memories of happy times. Everything does not need to be perfect, just perfect for you.
To my 2009 brides, thanks for allowing me the opportunity to capture those perfect images of you. Each and every one of you were so beautiful. And I want my 2009 grooms to take pictures of them often throughout the year to let them know how special they are. To current and potential 2010 Brides, I can’t wait to capture your perfect days.
Happy 2010 to everyone.
Lewis.
